General Orthopaedic Care

Orthopaedic care focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders affecting the musculoskeletal system, including bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves. Our comprehensive approach includes both surgical and non-surgical treatments to help restore function and reduce pain.

We treat a wide range of conditions including arthritis, fractures, sports injuries, back and neck pain, joint disorders, osteoporosis, tendon and ligament injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, and various musculoskeletal conditions affecting bones, muscles, and joints.

You should consider seeing an orthopaedic specialist if you experience persistent joint pain, limited range of motion, recurring injuries, chronic back or neck pain, difficulty performing daily activities, or if your primary care doctor recommends a specialist consultation for musculoskeletal issues.

During your first visit, we'll review your medical history, discuss your symptoms and concerns, perform a physical examination, and may recommend diagnostic tests like X-rays if needed. We'll then discuss treatment options and develop a personalized care plan tailored to your specific condition and needs.

Yes, we offer comprehensive non-surgical treatments including physiotherapy, medication management, injection therapy, lifestyle modifications, exercise programs, and pain management techniques. We always explore conservative treatment options before considering surgical intervention.

Joint Replacement Surgery

Joint replacement surgery involves removing damaged or diseased joint surfaces and replacing them with artificial implants made of metal, plastic, or ceramic materials. This procedure is typically recommended when conservative treatments are no longer effective in managing pain and improving function.

We perform replacement surgeries for various joints including knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, and ankles. Knee and hip replacements are the most common procedures, but advances in technology have made joint replacement possible for many other joints affected by arthritis, injury, or degenerative conditions.

Recovery time varies depending on the joint replaced and individual factors. Generally, patients can expect 6-12 weeks for initial recovery, with full recovery taking 3-6 months. Most patients begin walking the day after surgery and start physiotherapy within a few days to regain strength and mobility.

Modern joint replacements are designed to last 15-20 years or longer with proper care. The longevity depends on factors such as the patient's age, activity level, weight, and the type of implant used. Regular follow-up appointments help monitor the joint's condition and ensure optimal function.

You may be a candidate if you have severe joint pain that limits daily activities, haven't found relief from conservative treatments, have significant joint stiffness, or have joint damage visible on X-rays. Age is not the only factor - we consider your overall health, activity level, and quality of life when determining candidacy.

Sports Injury Treatment

We treat a wide range of sports injuries including ACL tears, meniscus injuries, rotator cuff tears, tennis elbow, stress fractures, ankle sprains, shoulder impingement, muscle strains, ligament injuries, and overuse injuries. Our approach focuses on both acute injury treatment and injury prevention.

You should seek immediate treatment for severe injuries with intense pain, visible deformity, inability to bear weight, or suspected fractures. For less severe injuries, if pain or swelling doesn't improve within 2-3 days with rest and ice, or if symptoms worsen, it's important to get a professional evaluation promptly.

Many sports injuries can be prevented through proper warm-up and cool-down routines, using appropriate protective equipment, maintaining good physical conditioning, following proper technique, gradually increasing activity intensity, and listening to your body to avoid overuse. We also provide injury prevention education and training programs.

Return to sports timing varies greatly depending on the injury type, severity, and individual healing response. We follow a graduated return-to-play protocol that includes pain-free range of motion, restored strength, sport-specific training, and medical clearance. Rushing back too early can lead to re-injury or chronic problems.

We treat athletes of all levels, from weekend warriors and recreational players to competitive and professional athletes. Whether you're injured during a casual game with friends or training for competition, we provide the same high-quality care tailored to your specific activity level and goals.

Digital X-ray Services

Digital X-rays offer immediate image availability, superior image quality with enhanced detail, reduced radiation exposure compared to traditional film X-rays, easy storage and sharing of images, environmentally friendly with no chemical processing, and the ability to enhance images digitally for better diagnosis.

X-rays are very safe when used appropriately. Modern digital X-ray equipment uses significantly less radiation than older systems. The radiation exposure from a typical X-ray is minimal and equivalent to natural background radiation we're exposed to daily. We follow strict safety protocols and only recommend X-rays when medically necessary.

Most X-rays require minimal preparation. Remove jewelry, metal objects, and clothing from the area being examined. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes. Inform us if you're pregnant or might be pregnant. For some specialized X-rays, you may receive specific preparation instructions beforehand.

A typical X-ray examination takes 5-15 minutes depending on the area being examined and number of views needed. The actual X-ray exposure lasts only a fraction of a second. Digital X-rays are faster than traditional film X-rays since there's no processing time required.

With digital X-rays, images are available immediately after the examination. Our radiologist or orthopaedic specialist will review the images and discuss the results with you during your appointment. If additional consultation is needed, results are typically available within 24-48 hours.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that helps restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness, or disability. It involves assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of physical impairments through exercise, manual therapy, education, and advice to promote health and well-being.

Physiotherapy helps with musculoskeletal conditions including back and neck pain, joint problems, post-surgical rehabilitation, sports injuries, muscle strains, ligament sprains, chronic pain conditions, balance and mobility issues, posture problems, and injury prevention. It's beneficial for all ages and activity levels.

Treatment duration varies depending on your condition, severity, and individual progress. Acute injuries may require 4-6 weeks, while chronic conditions might need 8-12 weeks or longer. Sessions typically last 45-60 minutes and may be scheduled 2-3 times per week initially, then reduced as you improve.

Your first session includes a comprehensive assessment of your condition, medical history, movement patterns, strength, and flexibility. We'll discuss your goals and develop a personalized treatment plan. Some gentle treatment may begin in the first session, and you'll receive education about your condition and home exercises.

While many insurance plans require a physician's referral for physiotherapy coverage, you can also self-refer for direct access to our services. We recommend checking with your insurance provider about coverage requirements. Some conditions may benefit from medical evaluation before starting physiotherapy treatment.
